California Lithium-Ion Battery Rule (SB 1215)

Effective July 1, 2025, California implemented a new embedded-battery recycling law (SB 1215). This regulation applies to any “product containing a battery from which the battery is not designed to be easily removed from the product by the user of the product with no more than commonly used household tools.”

For Ruffwear, this regulation directly applies to The Beacon™ safety light, which contains a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

Retailer Requirements

Under this emergency rulemaking finalized by CalRecycle, new or refurbished covered battery-embedded products must be labeled with information identifying the chemistry of the embedded product.

As a retailer, you are required to provide certain information regarding the battery in our Beacon to consumers if/when they ask. To make this as seamless as possible, Ruffwear is providing the necessary battery chemistry documentation digitally so you have it readily available on demand.
